Overview

Spend a half-day exploring Istanbul on a guided walk and take in the top sights of the old and new city. Visit exciting Taksim and traditional yet trendy Beyoglu, walk along the Caddesi, and stop for a cup of Turkish coffee and a bit of fortune-telling.

What to Expect

Get to know both the old and the new sides of magical Istanbul. Begin your tour with a stroll through exciting Taksim, in the heart of this vibrant city. See the young and hip, the artists, and the local businessmen, as your guide tells you about the significance and the character of the area.

On your half-day tour you’ll head to Beyoglu next, a district considered the most authentic part of the old city. The area is enjoying a cultural and architectural revival, and has become a center for fashion, art, restaurants, and nightclubs.

Walk along the Caddesi (Grande Rue), a popular pedestrian boulevard. This was the final destination for passengers traveling on the Orient Express and the architecture is reminiscent of 19th-century Europe.

Explore the back streets and see a variety of funky cafés before stopping to enjoy a traditional Turkish coffee and have your fortune told. Afterwards, a local fortuneteller will turn your cup over onto the saucer and tell your fortune from the remains.

With a caffeine boost under your belt, you'll continue on your tour taking in the European architecture and taking a peek into the many pasajis that lead to secret courtyards. Due to European influence and presence, there are many churches of various faiths to see here.

Visit Galatasaray Square, site of the first European-inspired high school, and Cicek Pasaji (Flower Passage), a shrine to the Turkish love of leisurely dining.

Stop by the Balik Bazaar, a local market specializing in seafood and perhaps try some fresh battered and fried mussels. Finish off with a ride on the Tünel funicular, a stroll through Karakoy, and then catch a tram back to Sultanahmet.
